My grandson has the same one. Start with the 100 and get a temp of the basking site. Shoot for at least 100+. If it's not that high cover one side of the top to try and keep some of the heat in. You made need to upgrade to a 150 watt as well as a dome rated for 150 watts or the fixture won't handle it and the bulb can blow out. I hope this helps and gets you started in the right direction.
Hello, I have the same tank. Good tank, but the top mesh isn't the best for light/radiation penetration.
As far as lighting, here's what I have. I have 2 dual dome fixtures over the hot/basking side, and an 18" ReptiSun T8 HO 10.0.
Both dual domes are connected to hanging arms, so I can adjust height as needed. In the first dome, I have a 100w and a 50w basking bulb. I only use 1 bulb at a time, which depends on the desired temp.
The second dual dome contains a 160w SolarGlo Mercury Vapor Bulb (MVB) and a small CHE (60w, I think) I like the MVB's, despite their high price. They emit both UVA and UVB, and a good amount of heat. Granted, it's not as intense or focused as a basking bulb, but good for over all temps. The CHE I typically only use at night if it gets REALLY cold, otherwise I have NO lights/heat on at night.
The ReptiSun is sitting over the other half of the tank. Yes, I know it looks like I've got a lot of UVB sources, but it's a big tank! Lol.
I also made a mount for all the dome switches, and color coded them with zip ties.
How old is your dragon? I'm sure you know that age determines the ideal basking temp. Babies: 100-107, juvies: 95-100, adults: 90-95.
Here are some photos of my setup:
If you notice, I've also mounted a small fan on the (cool) side vent. This doesn't really have any impact on actually cooling it down at all, but it does help move/circulate the air, making it less stale/stagnant. I have even seen Wally climb up near the fan at times, as if trying to get some air. Lol
I hope this helps you more than it confuses you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. As I said at the beginning, this is just MY setup, which works for us, and not necessarily the way you HAVE to set it up. I've seen a lot of people be able to achieve proper temps and radiation with less.
