Indoor/Outdoor digital thermometers work very well to show both temps at a glance. Used them for many years. Probe/Sensor (Outdoor) on the basking spot, with the main unit (Indoor) with the readouts on the cool side.
I use a heat gun to take readings throughout the tank and set up the basking zones. Tempgun.com has a good one and its priced well. For everyday monitoring I like the zoomed digital ones with probe.
