Hello everyone,
I'm very new in this forum and I'm looking for solutions... Very devastated and need help...

My 5 months beardie (Smaug) got yellow fungus disease...got a call from the vet and told me it's positive.. I really don't know what to do..its a really small spot near her left lips.. I heard the treatment is not guarantee. For that young, is it possible for a cure? what should I do?

If they caught it early possibly, yellow fungus is a nasty disease I would definitely clean everything in her tank it is contagious

I've heard if it's caught and treated early, then it's curable.

Yellow fungus can be fatal the vet will give her anti fungals I believe and it's a pretty intense treatment process from what I know

ok. its a really small one and it has not yet spread. So you think the treatment will work for a 5 months beardie? would the tank, tree branch, etc. also be contaminated?

Just to be safe do everything I know they sell cleaning solutions on like beardeddragon.co otherwise I'm sure you would be able to find a homemade one on google...the vet would decide the best treatment route you can also google what you can do in the meantime I forget what it is off the top of my head but I know the supplies you can get at like walgreens or cvs probably even like walmart

There's been a couple of recent threads here about yellow fungus. Search the forum for Yellow Fungus. The disease is nasty and it affects the internal organs if left untreated. If the vet can start him on an antiviral medication ASAP then there is a good chance that he will be okay since the spot is still small. Yellow fungus does spread and will contaminate the decor. Not completely sure but I think you have to replace everything and clean the tank itself real good.

Tell your vet to start a treatment of a drug called voriconazole. You'll also need to get a topical antifungal agent to treat the external spot as well. If your vet is unfamiliar with the treatment, you can take him this article to get him/her started

As for cleaning your enclosure, I would recommend getting what is called F10. Its a quat disinfectant that is safe to use around reptiles and does not require lots of rinsing like bleach and other harsh chemicals. Here is a place you can pick some up, though there are numerous online sources. Just make sure its the f10SC (just the disinfectant) and not the SCXD which also has a soap in it (which requires some rinsing).

thanks for all the info! I really appreciated. I spoke with the vet, and for cleanin the tank and accessories, they told me to use cholrhexadine (use 2% of the solution). Is this recommend? Sorry I ask. I just want to be sure base on you guys experience. I'm going all out for Smaug to make her better. How long would that fungus spread? I just got it confirm yesterday from the vet.

i got that for zuri when i took her to the vet thinking she might have yellow fungus but it was just stuck on shed that had gotten stained and the vet gave me a squirt bottle of that to use in her baths to help keep the area where chunks of shed came off

I use chlorahexaine for my primary cleaner for reptiles- and my cat's stuff actually. It is one of the cleaners they use in veterinary offices. I soak all decor- even wood with it. It needs to soak for 20 minutes to be effective and the diluted solution shouldn't sit too long. I make a fresh batch every day. I've never used it for yellow fungus but I've seen it marketed for that purpose. Keep us updated on your dragon. I hope he improves.

It's so interesting to read about Chlorahexadine in this context. I work in a dental office and we use a Chlorahexadine mouth rinse for periodontal problems. Never thought it could be used to sanitize other things.

hello everyone! I finally received voriconazol medication. I'm trying to research online and youtube to figure out of how to use it. Does anyone have any sources of instructions of how to apply it on baby bearded dragon?

Thanks guys for the advise. Really helped!

Voriconazole is an oral treatment, not a topical one. You normally give it 10 mg per kg weight of the animal.

Did you get this from a vet? With little babies I think it's best to have the vet show/give the first treatment.

No, but my vet call a pharmacy company in Arizona to place an order and shipped it to me. Ok, I will make an appointment to the vet.
