Yeah I like the digital therms with probes too over a reg thermometer like she has in the tank now. I just recommend the temp gun because you get an instant reading unlike the former two options. I find it more convenient when setting up the temperature gradient to just "point and shoot" with the gun. I can get several samples all around the tank in the matter of seconds to get a clear understanding of how my heat source is radiating around the tank. Once I get a general idea I like to use the probe (or a thermometer) set up permanently in the basking spot. Obviously the probe takes a lot less room and way less cumbersome and more accurate so that would be the preferred.
