Missing Scales on Tail

Heyyy so I've had my beardie Gin for a few months now and I've found some spots on his tail where the scales are missing. I don't think it's tail rot because it's still pretty flexible, but I'm still worried about him. I've found a spot under the tail that looks like old skin but I've looked under it and it looks like one of the scales is missing. He also flinches when I touch it. He doesn't really look in pain at all, and he's pretty active. Should I take him to the vet for this? I'm pretty sure the red staining is from the sand I'm using, and I'm hoping to replace it with something better soon
