Hi all...my son has had the beardie since Christmas and everything seemed good until the last few days. Eats 10-15 crickets, 2-3 black fly larvae and some greens daily. Has been having bowel movements and seemed fine.

Temp in set up ranges from 80-110 during the day and around 75 at night. He was really pale/light skinned this morning and not moving much. This afternoon his color is significantly darker and he is kind of skittish, won’t let you touch him.
My only thought is the uvb lighting isn’t adequate Or he is about to shed. I have attached pics of him and the lighting. Any advice would be appreciated.

So im trying to help on this site . Im first going to suggest possible feeding him more, he looks about 2-4 months so check out this little chart.


Age Diet Ratio Amount Frequency
<2-3 months : 70% Insects 30% Veg : 30-80 insects total per day : 3-5 feeding times per day
3-8 months : 70% Insects 30% Veg : 30-80 insects total per day : Two feeding times per day

Next post we will narrow down possible problems

We feed him until he won’t eat anymore...he is actually pretty good at hand feeding.

Please get rid of the coil UVB --- they are inadequate and will cause all kinds of health issues down the road -- it needs to be replaced ASAP- if your tank is a 40 gallon + you need this fixture I am going to show you what you need --- it is currently out of stock on my go to place please look at your local pet stores most do not carry this size but will carry the 18" fixture -- you want a Zoo Med --Zillas are ok but you want the Reptisun 10.0 bulb if you go this route

this bulb for the 24" fixture https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/zoo-med-reptisun-10.0-uvb-t5.html and I see they are out of stock on these bulbs as well--- when you get this replaced let me know I will help getting it set up the bulbs T 5 and T 8 have different placement and distances ---basking temps need to be taken w/ a digital probe thermometer NO stick ons they are inaccurate ---- these two things I have posted are the two MOST IMPORTANT things in the tank they control the behavior and over all health of the dragon

No it's too small for a 40 gallon-- you want a 24"-- if you decide to.upgrade your tank down the road that fixture will go right into a bigger tank--- look for one on amazon- my go to places are all out of stock -

Ok that's good it will come w/ a 5.0 bulb hang on to it you may need it down the road- distance and placement is different for that bulb--- let me know when it comes so I can help you get it placed
