I would like to introduce you to Nozdormu (possibly) I brought him home last night, and it's already been a blast :) The little desert starter kit made by Zilla didn't come with all the proper doodads for a bearded dragon, so I would say to avoid that. I've already had to go buy my own lamps with proper bulbs, but I'm too busy enjoying the dragon to be worried about it

Very nice....He has pretty colors. Welcome to BDF. Lots of good people here to help you out and answer your questions. How small is the little desert starter kit?? And don't listen to pet store 'reptile specialists'....they don't know squat! :D

It's a little 20 gallon. I feel like it's good for his size right now, but they had a 40 gallon on sale for $40 so I bought that but I figured it would be a good idea to wait a little bit to avoid too much moving stress. Besides, I would like to put sand in the 40 so I should wait until he's big enough. He wasn't very active when he came home last night which had me a little worried but he's been pretty active in the last few hours so that's a relief lol I'm hoping it's a boy obviously

I hope it is a boy too! I have sand for my substrate and Spike likes it. Your beardie should be at least 10" nose to end of tail before putting him on sand. And it should be play sand from a Lowes or Home Depot. Don't get the calc-sand....it is very bad for dragons as it can cause impaction and you don't want to go through that. He will get more active as he gets used to his new home. Good luck and come back often!! :D
