hi just need a bit of advice about basking lamps.... is it true you can use a normal household bulb? the pet shop said this is ok and is best to use a high watt clear household bulb?

Yes its true, you can use normal household bulbs for basking lamps.

I also recently learned that the hallogen type give off more heat with lower wattages, so you can save power. If I remember correctly it was something like a 20W Hallogen lamp gives off the same amount of heat as a 50W normal bulb....
