Hi! How have you guys been? This past Friday 12/13 and Saturday 12/14, Ember’s tail started to darken. He has done this before when he got really upset and Black Bearded. But this isn’t tail rot is it? It also looks like he’s going to shed so maybe that’s it?
UPDATE: I took him to the vet today 12/17 and the doctor said that it doesn’t look too alarming since he has sensation in his tail and that it isn’t soft, crusty, or black, nor has it spread. She said that when they’re in shed and in this colder weather their immune systems are not as strong and they makes them more susceptible to bacterial infections especially those that affect the blood. She said that the smaller vessels (ex: toes and tail) are most susceptible. So as a precaution she sent us some antibiotics (injections, tacizef, 7 doses, done every 3 days). She said that it wouldn’t have any negative side effects, and this may be more than what’s needed because it more than likely is just shed + color change as he’s maturing. But she said the meds would prevent any possible infections that would compromise his tail.
The zoomed up photos with a green background is the more recent ones taken today 12/18. He is 7 months old and a male.
