Hi, the distance is safe as long as the temps are within range. Id definitely try to keep the basking and uvb bulbs as close as you can get them. The reason for this is. Naturally in the wild they bask in the sun for the warmth and at the same time they are receiving UVB. So while he is basking he should be recieving the benefits of the uvb as well. Another point is that most people set up a basking spot with a log or rock getting them closer to the bulbs. The further you get away from a uvb bulb the amount of uvb weakens.
