hi there. we have recently rehomed a 2 year old male bearded dragon ( we were told 2 but not sure) He was in a pretty messy vivarium when we got him but we have since brought a brand new vivarium and set up. He has these marks on his head but nowhere else. can you please advise to what this is and how we treat if that is needed. thanks

Welcome to the forum and welcome to beardies!! I saw your other pictures and these ones and I think you have done a great thing at rescuing this fella!!

It looks like he's in really good condition it appears to me that he is starting a shed, which would make sense if he wasn't in the best of conditions and now he is that he would get some new healthy scales :) Adults will do a weird process of shedding where it may take forever to complete and will go in small areas..

I have 1 thing I would suggest and that's the substrate dragon's taste their environments it's how they know where they are etc.. so they will in time they will ingest it and it can cause impactions, eye irritations, holds in bacteria. If you use calci sand it can over time make them sick, impacted. Best options are paper towels, newspaper, ceramic tiles, shelf liner and repti carpet..
Other than that looks great! and he looks happy.

We have wanted a beardie for such a long time but never got around to it . We saw this guy needing a new home. He is awesome, such a little character .he is fascinating to watch. he loves to come out and have a run around too, he even squared up to the dog lol (pointer). i think it is in fact shedding as ive been told by so many people now,i just wanted to be certain in case it was not. i will defiantly rethink the calci sand. thank you for your replies

Please get that stuff out. I use retirement carpet and I love it. It cleans so well and easy. It looks nice and it's a little insulation from the ground. It's safe safe safe.
