Hey I’m a new member to the forum and a new owner to a 1-2 year bearded dragon that was given to me from an acquaintance from my son’s work. The previous owner didn’t have time / didn’t want him anymore. I’ve had him for about a week. I was given the entire setup but it was inadequate all he had was a daytime incandescent bulb and a red night bulb. I’ve replaces the red bulb with a ceramic heat bulb already. What I need help with is the uvb I plan on ordering. The tank is 36x18x18 which I know is small but want to get the husbandry issues fixed before a bigger enclosure. The lamp is about 8” from the basking spot and 16” from the substrate on top of the metal screen would a 12% uvb be fine for the current setup? Thanks for any help this is my first lizard I’m use to snakes and tarantulas.

Welcome to the forum -- there are 3 good UVB's that are recommended -- I would go w/ a bigger enclosure your going to spend a lot of money on one tank just to turn around and spend it again --- I would go w/ a 4x2x2 tank -- I have websites I can post for them if your interested - now for the UVB Iam going to post for a tank of 18 and 24 inches high ---
Zoo Med comes w/a 5.0 bulb you will need the 10.0 bulb posting link for that as well
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...o-med-reptisun-t5-hood?variant=26907425734756
22" https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...d-reptisun-10-0-uvb-t5?variant=26907418591332
or this one you can find it at Pet Smart as well you want the 12% bulb 24 watt
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle.../products/arcadia-prot5-12-uvb-bulb-with-hood
or this one you will need to change the bulb out to the Reptisun posted above - get the 2 ft fixture or 24"
https://hydrobuilder.com/sunblaster...mp.html?opts=eyJhdHRyaWJ1dGU5MDEiOiI2NjEwIn0=
please make sure you have 2 digital probe thermometers -- one for the hot side of the tank to get surface basking temps - place probe where the dragon sits for basking 10 min or so get temp - it does not need to stay on that spot but checked every couple of weeks adult dragons 95-100 surface basking temp and 80ish on the cool side - you wont need the heat bulb I am assuming its a CHE no light unless your tank is dropping below 65 at night -- dragons like cool and dark - so the basking bulb should be a clear solid bright white bulb -- examples are Flukers basking - Exo Terra Intense -- or a Arcadia Halogen please NO Daytime bulbs off white or yellowish bulbs - if you need more help please ask -- its good you got rid of the red bulb - colored bulbs damage their eye site and disturb their sleep

Thanks for all the info. I’ve got all the temps up where they should be. The basking bulb is white supplies the uva while fluorescent one provides the uvb correct? I just want to make sure I get everything correct. I’ll definitely check out all the links. If you could send me a link for the enclosure I would greatly appreciate it. One more question I know he wasn’t getting feed very good going by the way he look when I got him. He’s suppose to be 1-2 years old but is only about 14” which from what I read seems to be pretty small. Now that he’s getting feed greens and insects everyday will be grow still or do they top out at a certain age?

Yes the white bulb also supplies the UVA and heat -- the UVB is your "sun" so to speak and helps them absorb/ synthesize the calcium -- here are some links for tanks
https://apcages.com/ dont have any info on these
www.zenhabitats.com I have 2 of them - sides and back are bamboo - light weight and I use the black mats for the substrate w/ 2 long pieces of textured serrated tile to keep nails down
https://talkingserpents.com/
https://carolinadesignerdragons.com/ these are all glass and very heavy I dont like the basking bulb fixture is attached to the UVB making it hard to adjust for temps
https://www.diycages.com/products/c...24-pvc-board-critter-condo-with-t5ho-lighting
https://symtonbsf.com/collections/home-page-showcase/products/4-x2-x2-aluminum-reptile-enclosure
www.dubiaroaches.com there are several people I have seen that have these tanks
His growth has been stunted they grow till around age 2
