Baking play sand ?

I got my play sand all nicely sifted through and ready to go. Ive read that i should bake it first . Ive baked a lot of things but since ive never baked sand before should i put it on cookie sheets so its a thin layer or can i put it in a cake or roasting pan ? does it matter ?

you dont really have to bake it first, but if you feel safer doing so then i would put it on a baking sheet and bake t that way. nothing thicker than an inch so it all gets the heat!
