Hello! Last Wednesday we picked up our Leo - a baby. Since then we saw him eat two crickets and some veggies. He also fully molted on Sunday. Today, we made his cage shorter and he ate 3 horned worms.

1. Is this normal? _ My Mommy gut say sno
2. With the 3 are we on the road to normal?
3. How can I help him eat better?

Thank you!

Definitely following this. We've had a puff for 3 weeks. He's about 3-4 months old. He ate really good the first few days we had him. Now I'm lucky if he eats 1 dubia a day.

Try covering the sides of the tank to make him feel more secure. They tend to go through relocation stress. When they first come home, they stuff themselves but then realize they aren't going anywhere else and then start to get used to their new surroundings. The fact that they are eating a little something is good. Just need to give them some time to settle in, it can take a few weeks.

Ok. That makes me feel better. I'll start covering the front of the cage while we are away. He ate 1 big and 1 small dubia this am. I know they are more delicate at this age so I don't want to mess anything up!

Yep it can take a bit of time for them to come around after bringing them home.. When I got my now 2 adults they ate right away but with my newest Cooper weighing in at a whoppin 28 grams only at 4 dubia the first day the next day better and yesterday he pigged out.. I closely monitor his weight and his eating to make sure he gets what he needs since he's only 5 weeks old and very fragile at this age..
So the big thing is make sure the temps are where they should be, try and keep the stress low for them so they don't get more stressed.. and in time they will get to eating and doing well..

Should I be weighing him?
He did eat 5 superworms today - which makes for two days of eating. I covered two other sides of the his habitat as well.
Now we just need to make it through Irma....

Weighing them gives you good info like are they gaining weight, loosing weight, staying the same..It can help out if you make note of weights so you can look back and see if there is a pattern, are they loosing weight rapidly?

Leo update - while he didn't eat much during Irma - house full and general chaos - he's steadily been eating more and today knocked out 7 baby horned worms.

Thanks for the heads up on the runny poop. The horned worms were about 2 cm in length and very thin. I love how he has become "my dragon" even though he is technically my sons.

LOL that's how it begins...the kids dragon lol (not sure what my excuse is though.. haha I now have 3)
Yes hornworms are mostly moisture so they are fantastic for hydration
