my male beardie has been acting very aggressively towards the female. his beard is really really black and keeps climbing on top of her and biting the back of her head, she looks really distressed when he does this. the spines have been completely bitten off now. i know this isn't uncommon behaviour but is getting more and more frequent. they are 11 months old (ish). please help :(

They need to be separated, he could kill her, and he obviously has no problem hurting her. Sooner the better.

Have to agree with Big Daddy they need to be seperated before he seriously injures her or kills her.

They are both too young to breed (If that is your intention), so Seperate them ASAP.

The female should be at least 18 months although 2 years is even better for breeding.
The longer they are together the better the chances of him breeding with her and her body is still too young to handle the demands of eggs and laying.
The agression will also only continue and get worse.

If I remember correctly, this behavior is the "courting" of the male to the female for breeding.. Both are a bit young, and can you imagine feeding 30 new babies ? Not to mention, separate enclosures with heat and uvb... Then there is the female's health to think of... Yeah.. Separating would be best.
Hope this helps.

Agreed with all above. That behavior you are seeing is breeding behavior. They are too young. Honestly they shouldn't be together at all except if you want them to breed when they are older. He can very easily kill her.

Yep, everyone summed it up. It is normal behavior for two dragons housed together. They are territorial creatures and should not be housed together.
