We are relatively new owners of a 4 month old bearded dragon. Wellness check a month ago revealed coccidia and pinworms. Stool was malodorous at that time.

We treated with the appropriate medicaiton, two doses spaced 2 days apart for coccidia, and have given two doses of the pinworm medicaiton dosed every 14 days. Two doses left.

We emptied tank, threw away all decor items and mat. Washed tank by spraying with ammonia twice, then steam cleaned twice with hand held Bissel steam cleaner. Cleaned all care items (bowls, feeding forceps, etc) with ammonia. Kept him in a 20 gallon quarantine tank for one week while treating until stool normalized.

He seemed to recover, with normal well-formed stool. Has always behaved normally throughout it all. Very energetic, runs around at feeding time, jumps on decor, etc.

Yesterday right after feeding, he had a watery diarrhea stool, with a drop of redness. We have a call out to Vet, but just wondering what we are doing wrong, and how to get to the point where we are enjoying our pet and not constantly dealing with this. Any guidance? Does this definitely mean reinfection? Thanks.

Your surface basking temps taken w/ a digital probe thermometer and UVB are the key to keeping the parasites away--- if given the proper husbandry the dragon will be able to keep the parasites in check - they all have a certain amount of them but can keep them under control w/ proper tank husbandry- get your self some F 10- a vet disinfectant and clean the tank once a month w/ that -- you can find it on Amazon-- NO coils for UVB and your surface basking temps should be 105-110 for now - at around 6 months it will change to around 95-100- are you feeding anything red? The poop looks ok usually meds will effect the appetite and they wont eat much --

Thanks. We have a 120G enclosure, 24 inch T5 Acadia 12% uvb bulb suspended in tank, 150W basking bulb and ceramic heat element over basking area. Hopefully husbandry is okay.
