New guy here with 1st dragon. Have kept other reptiles but my first bd.

My daughter named him Stuffy, he is from SouthernBeardies.com and is a red leather het hypo.

I built him an enclosure and pounded on a retaining wall block and made it a basking rock/hide as well. I am working on a styrofoam rock/hide currently.

Nice enclosure, but I see what could be a serious problem with it, in that, it appears your BD can not get anywhere near enough to the UVB to receive any useable, effective amounts to be beneficial, unless it spends the majority of it's time in the middle on the vines by the gauges & then it would not be getting proper basking heat. UVB has a very limited range & does not emit as far as the visible light does. Very little, if any at all, UVB will be reaching the floor, so we must set up so the Basking Spot is close enough to the bulb to be effective, generally 8"-12" from the middle area of an unfiltered UVB tube Bulb. Very little UVB is emitted off the ends of a UVB tube.

Both the UVB & the Heat Bulb must cover the Basking Spot at a distance close enough to the UVB to be effective & to the heat bulb to give the appropriate temps. Basking temps should be measured directly at the basking spot. 3-4" off to the side mounted to the wall will not give you accurate temps. The temps will be affected by the temp of the wall which is affected by the outside ambient room temps which will also contribute to inaccurate readings. How tall is the enclosure? What type & strength of UVB bulb are you using? Is there a plastic cover on the UVB fixture covering the Bulb?

Congrats on your new pet :). Stuffy is a very nice looking BD

Welcome! Wow, LOVE the enclosure!!! I can't wait to get a 40g tank so I can be creative with it. Baby is still small so it will be awhile before I get it, but I look forward to all the home made things I can make and get everyone's opinion. Your beardie is beautiful! As Germ stated above though, you want the ReptiSun 10.0 tube next to the basking spot. Easy to fix! :)
