Hi Beardie parents! I realize that this 1) has probably been asked a lot and 2) is really dependent on each dragon’s personality, but Hobbes is my first dragon and I’m feeling very nervous: three days ago I started to notice her going into a big shed, which is fine, but she also lost her appetite almost completely, and just looks kind of haggard and a little thin. She also is only sitting or laying on the ground, not up in her hammock like usual.

She is still basking and sits with her head and neck raised, and is active and pooped, but she is usually RAVENOUS 24/7. So it was really kind of upsetting to see her refuse all her favorite foods, even a waxworm!

Is this normal with sheds? This is the only her second shed since I got her and it’s much more widespread than the first. Hobbes is a subadult dragon and measure 11.5 inches, estimated to be 7-8 months old.

Any opinions would be so appreciated, she has been getting warm soaks and really enjoying that. Of course I’m sitting here freaking out assuming she has parasites or something, even though her set up and diet are perfect. Maybe I just need reassurance?? Thanks to anyone who has opinions or info on this!

I've noticed a decrease in appetite during shed with my kids. Sometimes it's just reduced and sometimes they turn their noses up at food completely. Hobbes will get that shed worked off and return to his ravenous self before you know it.

Some dragons do get very cranky during sheds. If he doesn't start eating again after his shed, I would do a fecal test to rule out any parasites.
