Cancer or adenovirus?

Hey everyone this is my 3rd question about my 10 year old beardies health issues in the last few weeks.
I had to put him down a few days ago. I took him to a reptile specialist and she said he more than likely had a brain tumor, some sort of cancer, and adenovirus. She said he was past the point of getting through it, and was probably suffering.
I was so emotional at the time. I need reassurance that I made the right decision. Has anyone else experienced this with an older beardie? I am beside myself.

I'm so sorry for your loss. From the sounds of it, he did have something neurological going on if he was having a hard time with his balance. It's hard to say whether or not he was in pain. They can't speak to us, or show us what's wrong. If I had been in your situation, with his symptoms and age, I probably would have made the same heartbreaking decision. I haven't had a senior pet, I can't imagine what you're going through, but your sweet boy is no longer struggling. I think you did the right thing, the most difficult thing that any of us have to do.

Thank you, I appreciate it.. I just have a million unanswered qurstions, like what would cause a brain tumor? Or that virus? I hope it isn't something we did that caused this. And I can't stop thinking about it.

Hey, don't beat yourself up. Old age and cellular mutation happen. There was nothing you could have done. Your boy had 10 great years. That's a good thing. You did everything right to have such a healthy and long lived dragon.

I am so sorry to hear this. It's hard to know what causes anything in these guys. Please don't beat yourself up over this and remember the fact that he was TEN! That's pretty freakin' amazing that you gave him a great life and he lived happy and loved and healthy for TEN years!

I'm not sure with ADV if it shows up that late in life, I guess it's possible. Cancer is a possibility. I don't think it really is anything to do with you or anything you did. Like Eavlynn said, old age and cellular mutation happens, my best guess is the he just died of general things that would happen when they age. The kindest thing we can do for them is to put aside our needs for companionship and realize that they are in pain and don't want to suffer. I know it's hard but you did good by him and he he knows that he was loved.

Thanks guys I was just feeling almost guilty, about everything- from wondering how long he may have been suffering without me knowing, to wondering if it was something I ever did wrong to cause him getting sick, to wondering if I shouldn't have put him down and sucked up the bills to keep him alive longer. It makes me so sad.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss I know that's gotta be heavy stuff. Unfortunately neurological issues are one of those things that usually can not be fixed. Things happen for unexplainable reasons. I know that must have been a hard decision but for what it's worth I think it was the best decision for your baby.
