Change the UVB every 6 months. My beardies used to get real lethargic when it was time to change them. Sand is ok for an adult but it's a pain. First you need to use washed children's play sand. Make sure your beardie stays hydrated to prevent impaction. It's not sanitary, even if you pick the poop up right away, the liquid portion is going to stay and breed bacteria. There's also risk of getting it stuck under an eyelid or inhaling sand dust. The risks are just not worth it. Plus do you really want a dragon leaving sand all over your house?
