Is my 1yo beardie trying to lay?

Thank you! Going to set one up as soon as I get home :)

Is my 1yo beardie trying to lay?

Thank you! I’m just confused as to why she would be ready to lay but I don’t feel lumps in her belly? Do you know if they set up to lay if they’re early gravid and you can’t feel the eggs yet?

    I know I sound crazy

Oh weird! Can you place something on the INSIDE to prevent a reflection?

    I know I sound crazy

Just a tip - I found these liners on Etsy for reptile enclosures (UVB and heat resistant) - they’re way better than carpet and are extremely easy to wipe clean, love them!

You can measure the sides and order tank backgrounds on Amazon, they have some good ones. Until they arrive, maybe just put up some newspaper on the sides?

Is my 1yo beardie trying to lay?

I’ve never had a female beardie before but I read they can start to lay infertile eggs between 8-18mos when they sexually mature, but also read that it’s more common for them to do it between 2-4 years. She’s only 1 year old but she’s been behaving differently the last two weeks - less active...

Personally, I would wait to switch enclosures until he has a clean bill of health because you don’t want to stress him more, but that’s just my .02

    What the heck is this?!

I know, right? I’m still stunned, covered his enclosure with a blanket and lit a candle and now it is unexpectedly pouring rain, so bizarre… happier times just a month ago:

    What the heck is this?!

Thank you so much! Tomorrow I’m going to break down and toss everything - it will be quite a while until I even think about getting another :( I used a ReptiSun 10.0 tube inside his enclosure so was good there - it certainly wasn’t MBD (he had normal blood work a few months ago too), the...

    What the heck is this?!

I am heartbroken, after last Thursday I didn’t see this again until this morning but it was very very slight, almost like a cough and his beard didn’t turn black this time, still eating and pooping, he took a bath this morning and looked perfectly fine. I made an appt with the Vet for 5pm, got...

Newbie needs help getting beardie to be comfortable

Juvenile beardies act like they’re starving all the time and need much more protein than adults. I remember I would feed mine three times a day and now he eats feeders maybe once or twice a week (I offer but he has no interest). A good rule of thumb is to feed them as many feeders as they’ll eat...

    Why mouth open?

That’s a submissive wave, my beardie has only done this once when I was getting some worms ready to feed him

    Digging/substrate?

Yeah my beardie did this more when he was younger but the best is a piece of cloth to sleep on and dig into in their hide - I used a bandana too. You don’t want any loose substrate for beardies - the trauma and cost of impaction will teach you that lesson.

Newbie needs help getting beardie to be comfortable

Yeahhh please try to handle him less and keep the dog away, beardies are solitary creatures and get stressed out easily. They don’t LIKE being handled, they more TOLERATE it so give him time to acclimate to his enclosure first and then you. I also can’t stress the importance of live feeders (I...

    Basking bulbs

I feel like any bulb is the best as long as it lasts and provides consistent temps it’s fine. I like ReptiSun 150w. The UVB bulb is the more important one - I like ReptiSun 10.0 24” 17w tube but the size would depend on the size of your enclosure.
