I beleive most of the worry about the cloth is that it can collect bacteria and parasites. Just my 2 cents, as long as you have several, and wash the cloth very frequently, there shouldn't be an issue :)
Sorry. Some type of live protein is a must. In my opinion, there is an option for your situation. (Please no one get mad at me for suggesting this. ^_^')

Crickets can be bought online in bulk for cheap. I order mine 1000 at a time, once a month or so. (Until my beardie grows up anyway) It costs me about 25 dollars for a shipment of 1000
Mealworms are not good for beirdies. Other reptiles may eat them, but our dragons cannot digest the shells. If your father has a problem with crickets, you can maybe consider breeding roaches. You would have to feed crickets for a few months while your colony grows, but after it is ready, you...

Well, crix are the best/cheapest and very good nutritionwise. But there are alternitives such as roaches. I personally wouldn't go with hornworms, except as a treat. Those things get HUGE!
I hate to have to do this, but sometimes you need to deal out a little tough love. Just put crickets in there, and no matter how many she eats, refuse to give her mealworms. Im pretty sure when she sees no more mealies are comming, she will learn to like the crix. :)

Oh wow. :O This is why I would probably never chance 2 beardies in one house, even if both guys. You might never know. Anyway, if you arent ready for that many little mouths to feed, I think I would agree and say freeze them. It costs a lot of time, responsibility, and money to hatch beardies...
