    Not wanting to eat

Interesting. This is very similar to what we are seeing with our 4.5 month old dragon. I have an extra UV bulb...I'll swap it out too and see if that makes any difference.

    Finally got our dragon!

I wanted to post an update here since we have some new questions / concerns. First, though, here is a recent pic of Mango. She's now 4.5 months old, 290grams in weight and 14.5" in length. She was an eating machine for the first couple months. I had bred thousands of red runner roaches that...

    feeding questions

I've seen several sources stating that baby / juvi dragons should eat 2 to 3 times per day as much as they can in 10 minutes. Does it matter whether one is feeding in a container versus their having to hunt them down? As you can imagine, they can certainly eat more if they are hunting "fish in...

    Finally got our dragon!

First, I want to thank everybody for all the advice in the weeks leading up to picking out a dragon. It definitely paid off as this little girl settled in and seemed happy almost immediately. This is Mango! The kids drew her some mountains for a background. She is ~6 weeks old, about 7"...

    food & water locations

Does it matter if food is on the warm or cool side? I'm considering also offering a shallow water dish that it can get into...same question.

    Temperature!

I It works great on my 7" Exo Terra dome light. There is a faint high pitched hum, but nothing you would hear from more than a foot away. The slider has a nice feel and enough range that you can make pretty fine adjustments.

    Temperature!

This is the one I bought after finding that my 75W Halogen was too much. I'll be hooking it up and testing it out tomorrow. There were slightly cheaper options, but a lot of those got several negative reviews for having the typical dimmer humming or buzzing noise...

    Temperature!

I'm certainly no expert, but 80F sounds pretty good for the cool side. Exact temp isn't critical as long as it's roughly 20-25F less than the hot side. Switching to a small halogen could make the basking spot too narrow to fit all of him into...especially when he's bigger.

    Gut Loading?

I'm so glad there is somebody here that overthinks stuff more than I do....welcome! :) I don't think there is a definitive answer to your question. I feed my roach colony every other day and they swarm new food immediately so I'm pretty confident they all eat. I've read that roaches can hold...

    Differences between male and female?

OK, so I took enough biology in school to not have the obvious difference pointed out. :) We're planning to purchase a BD in a couple weeks and I now want to get thoughts on getting a boy versus a girl. What I've read so far is that males get larger than females, are more colorful, are more...

    Lighting question

Thought I'd follow-up on this to let ppl know where I ended up. I found a chart online where somebody had taken UVB measurements of a couple of the bulbs I was considering in one of the fixtures I was considering. From the data they presented I learned that an Arcadia 12% bulb sitting on top of...

    Lighting question

Yes, I came across that fixture and liked the look of it due to it being so slim. I have been considering if I'd rather use this on top instead of mounting the 24" inside. If we choose to mount inside I might just use a 10% bulb (while still offering a shelter).

    Lighting question

I was wrong...its the ExoTerra one. Here's a pic. Mostly curious if other are using 24" T5 fixtures in their 36" wide enclosures or if it's not enough. I want to zip tie it inside the lid to the center plastic support so the bulb will be about 15" from the bottom. FYI, the SunBlaster fixture...

    Lighting question

I was given a 36x18x18 enclosure. It's one of those Zilla or ZooMed ones with the front opening doors and the wire mesh top that has black plastic supports running front to back and left to right so the top wire mesh is divided into four quadrants. I want the BD to get the light/heat it needs...

    another beginner with questions

Ha...sorry. Blatta (Shelfordella) lateralis is an alternative to dubia's. Also know as red runner roaches or Turkistan roaches. They are soft bodied and cannot climb, but adult males have wings and can sort of flutter or glide...not really fly. They are really fast and are largely preferred...
