We've always had sand for our Button. Never had a problem. We got her when she was as big as a pinky finger. She is now 7 months old. She appears to love to dig and cuddle in it inside her "turtle power", or she will lounge sprawled across it in the warm side.

We cuddle with Button and sometimes she will cuddle back or wiggle her way off to go explore around the living room, especially early morning when it's sunny and bright.

And PLEASE don't worry about the sand. Clearly this beardie was raised with sand and knows not to eat it. Instinctively! The only con of sand is you have to change it every two months to keep enclosure healthy and clean.
