Trust me my cage is big enough the ambient is still 85 and it's one spot to each his own but people find beardies here where I live that ppl let go and they are basking on cement the average temp here is 115 and they are fine
Your set up seems nice only thing I would change is the UVB bulb these are high sunlight reptiles and need a 10.0 UVB bulb it set up is very similar to mine actually although I use fahrenheit so I am not sure what the temps are but sound just fine personally anytime they shed I give daily baths...
I agreed that it hasn't been proven I said I personally didn't want to take the risk maybe I should right my thesis on this haha I've never had a impacted animal I do agree most can be contributed to poor husbandry any I've encountered from some one else that probably was the case I simply...
That temp isn't that extreme these guys originate from the Australian desert basking spots there get hotter than that think about it why would you keep a ackie monitor with a basking temp of 140 when they are from the same region in the wild they would have different basking temps ranging from...
I agree with him on carpet as the easiest and safest I have a custom built cage with removable tile it's a breeze to clean but an silks are expensive and fragile to mold of not careful but they go nuts for them I have 3 basking temps personally the highest being 135f the other 120f and the...
Haha funny you should mention tegu forums but the tegu forum I'm a member on has the most knowledge I've seen for all branches of iguanas but agree i haven't been able to find one dedicated specifically for iguanas
Haha good luck with silks locally but they are amazing feeders but fairly fragile I order them fro mulberry farms they are awesome about fast delivery and great customer service lol
Dubai roaches dont jump or fly they are awesome in my opinion as for substrate I use tile no sand no gravel even adults are clumsy eaters so sand and calcium sand can cause problems as for the tank smelling I clean once a week my beardie poops daily and it never stinks lol
That's true but thy do have a way higher fat content than crickets as well as a higher risk of impaction it's everyone's personal preference I have more than just beardies so I have to do what's good for the lot meals and supers are not good for most frog species so I'd rather not take the risk...
Ok first off you have a lot of options other than crickets but mealworms are not a good choice they have a very high fat content and a even higher chitin to meat ratio a couple of good alternatives are silkworms, farm raised horn worms, or Dubai or lobster roaches beardies should be fed daily...
The mention of lighting reminded me sometimes bad sheds can e attributed to the type of UVB and placement along with temp what are you using as a UVB bulb? I agree any pics of your set up would be awesome when it comes I my beardies especially young one I bathe daily during a shed
