hey guys. First time reptile owner here. Was wondering if someone could help me identify the type and color of my beardie. Just got him on Wednesday. The pet place couldn’t tell me how old he was or or any info about him. They just didn’t know. So if someone could help or point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Pics attached.
I'm pretty sure he's a normal/classic. He's very pretty. The pet stores seem to sell them younger than they should, but he looks like he may be about 3 months old, or at least between 2 and 3 months. Corporate pet stores (as opposed to reptile specialty shops) also give notoriously bad information/advice on care and proper supplies. If they sold you a coil/compact bulb for uvb, you'll want to replace it with a long tube one, and if they sold you any colored bulbs (not CHE - those are good for extra heat when needed), don't use them. The basking bulb should be a bright white heat lamp.
What's your new baby's name?
He/she looks the same as my Bee. She was that color and size when I got her at petsmart two months ago and now she has reached the juvenile stage, is a foot long and is a greyish/ green color. It does look like a central bearded dragon as that is what most chain pet store sells and is extremely rare to get any other breed from there. A 20 gallon tank will suffice for yours until it reaches about a year old, after that you will need to upgrade to a bigger tank. I actually have to upgrade my two bearded dragons tanks very soon as they are out growing them. Here’s a couple pictures of mine, sort of a before and after so you can see how quickly they grow.
