Yes -- 55 gallon is good but recommended is 75-120 gallon - but if you bring your dragon out and let him run for a few hrs a day he will be happy in the that tank --- make sure your lighting is up to par --- like NO coil UVB's and good basking temps 105-110- NO colored bulbs and good substrate nothing loose like sand wood chips etc -- it causes impaction ---

I totally agree with the lighting and no loose substrate. I have 1 of my beardies which is itty bitty in a 40 gallon breeder and the other in a 75 gallon. I tried the 55 but when they get to be adult they cannot turn around very well in those.

I got a 50 gallon tank for mine. I have used both sandpaper and ground walnut shells as substrate and never had issues with impaction but then mine is also one of those oddball beardies that doesn't like to soak and will actually drink from the water bowl (replaced daily).

So I talked to the reptile specialist at the minnesota zoo and i was told that they should have uvb all across the tank so that the reptile get all they need. He put it to me this way, when they are in the wild they get uvb all day and if they need to get out of it they will sit in shade or dig a burrow to chill in. So thanks for the advice but i will go with the pro.

Exactly, sounds like you got some good advise there. Just be sure to provide some kind of hide for them in case they wanna get out of the UVB spectrum.
Also for substrate, you might want to consider either Repticarpet or slate tile. Both are good to use. I used repticarpet for years, and switched to slate about a year ago.
