I've read so many stories of people getting frustrated with their beardie not wanting to eat certain things, or seeming to go on a hunger strike waiting for their favorites. And their favorites do change. Greens and vegetables are fairly cheap, thankfully, but I sympathize with the...
One warning - I wish someone had told me, beardies have poor depth perception, and they try to jump off tables and backs of couches - and that can hurt them, so for the times you have them out of the tank, be right there to catch them if they decide to jump.
I found this at a FB page called "beardievet", and they have good info, although I don't recommend being on FB, I'm leaving it soon.... but Beardie Vet is in Australia, and it has been helpful to read what they have posted. I hope this helps give you at least a ballpark.
It took my dragon weeks to be ok with my hands. I started just holding him in my hand in the tank until he hopped off, usually a few minutes, and did just that for a few weeks before I took him out of the tank. They are slow at getting used to a new environment.
I'm going to agree that this isn't exactly the best pet for children. Some children do have the patience to take on the delicate care that reptiles need, but I know a lot of people who's children ended up killing the dragon, or the dragon became terrified of the noise and it ended up being the...
Well, I called a local specialty store to see if they could get me a larger tank, and the reptile specialist said that they could get an aquarium that's larger, but the reason the big companies don't do those is that adult dragons don't move around all that much. He said he has known a lot of...
Correction, I'm no longer saving for my own, so I can donate, however, I'd like to share what I learned yesterday. I called a specialty store here locally, I live near Nashville TN, this store has been here a long time, and they are very knowledgeable. I asked the guy in the reptile room about...
I'm currently shopping for a larger tank. I have one that's 36" x 16" floor space, and about 19" tall. For a lizard that can be 24" long, that is simply not enough, but it is so hard to find a glass tank with enough floor space. If you aren't looking for an all glass tank, and only need glass...
I wish I could donate, I'm saving for my own, but I want to recommend you look on craigslist for used aquariums and tanks, there are lots on there, plenty are bigger than what you have. Might help you until you get money for a really big one. Always check the free section, too, sometimes...
Ah, yeah, I always wonder about that when I see the larger tanks. I'm trying to be careful and take my time in planning Murray's next tank, or enclosure, etc. I would think that in a larger tank, you could mount a UVB lower, and maybe suspend a heat lamp, but you'd still get heat loss above...
