Mesh cage lid and uvb

I'm starting to gather supplies to make a suitable habitat for our future beardie and I plan on buying the arcadia 12% bulb and lid combo or the reptisun 10 HO and a hood (any recommendations for a lid with a reflector welcome). I'm going to be sitting the hood on the top of the lid and I know about the uvb not penetrating as well, so would cutting the mesh underneath the bulb be an option? I haven't heard of anyone doing it and it seems like an easy solution but I could be wrong. Thanks!

cutting the mesh would be an option. you do want to make sure your little one CAN NOT touch the light !! it could burn him severely.

Very true, my tank is 2 feet high so I think it will be ok. I was only going to cut the part thats under the uvb and leave the heat lamp part uncut since the heat should penetrate. And only like 2 inch strips down the length of the tube so some mesh will still be underneath to support it.

No need to cut the mesh. I use an Acadia 12% T5 bulb and it sits on the mesh and I get great UVB coverage. My tank is 18" high, if your tank is any higher, I would go with the 14%.

I didnt even know they made 14%, thanks! Does the 14% allow it to reach farther or is the uvb stronger?

Yes the 14% will penetrate deeper to the bottom of the tank. Perfect if you have a 24" tall tank. A little much if you only have an 18" tall tank.

Whatever light you go with, make sure your beardie has places to go to get away from the light.
