Hi everyone! I recently took in a Bearded Dragon because a friend of mine was unable to continue caring for her. I've owned a variety of reptiles throughout my life, and currently have a small collection. That said, I've never owned a Bearded Dragon, so I'm a bit uneducated when it comes to their morphs. I've done a significant amount of research, so I have no doubts about keeping her happy and healthy. Still, I would very much like to know a bit more about her. Here's what I do know:

She was purchased from PetSmart and was a "fancy" dragon.
She's about a year old give or take a month or two.
She currently weighs around 250 grams.
Her back feels very smooth, so I'm inclined to think she's a Leatherback. That said, I've never really been around a 'normal' Bearded Dragon, so perhaps I just think they're normally more rough than they actually are.

In addition to learning about her morph I'm hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what's going on with one of her toes. I'm including a picture of it here, so perhaps someone might be able to shed some light for me. It doesn't seem to bother her at all, and doesn't seem to affect her in any way. Is this something that can be caused due to a bad shed?

Welcome to the forum and to beardies.. She is beautiful!! Yes she is a leatherback but that is all I can tell you... The toe looks like it got caught on something and likely broke/dislocated it has this been there a long time?

Thanks for the welcome and the info!
She didn't tell me how long the toe has been like that, I'll try to find out. I assume it's been a while, or else I feel like it would cause her discomfort to have it moved.

Yea if it were new she may pull away if in discomfort there.. Looks like a good nail trim is in order especially that nail. If this is how it is now keeping it trimmed well will help keep it getting snagged again especially with the angle it is now..

Hydrydr31 reads my mind LOL!

Petsmart labels them "fancy" when their is something slightly different than the normal dragons and they don't know what to call it. My first was a fancy dragon and I found out from this forum it's because she is a citrus hypo. Your's is gorgeous leatherback.

As far as the toe goes, they are always damaging them somehow by either pulling the nails out or breaking the toes. It usually doesn't bother them much but you want to watch out for swelling and discoloration and pain. This looks like it's an old injury and this is how it healed.

One thing you could do is very carefully take a nail trimmer and trim the very tip of the nail off. They do have a quick like dogs and cats so you want to make sure you stay away from that. If you look at the nail though, you will see there is a very small tip then it gets fatter, just cut the tip off. It also helps to have something in the tank that they can climb on or walk on that will keep the nails filed down. Slate/ceramic flooring or even just a few pieces of tile will help. I have those half bark hides and they seem to help.
