Glass Surfing

My new baby bearded dragon is glass surfing a bunch and not eating very well. This is day 5 I have had him and he has ate crickets on two of those days. I am not sure why he is glass surfing so much. After he does that he jumps up on his basking rock and starts waving his arm. He seems pretty stressed out and I am not sure how to reduce this or if he will settle in. He is in a 40 gallon tank. Basking spot about 106. Cool side 75-79. Brand new reptisun 10.0. No background at the moment. I do have another bearded dragon in my room but I highly doubt the can see each other. My other beradie is 10 years old and pretty much just lays around out of sight in his tank.

I would cover 3 sides of his tank to help him settle in. Waving is a sign of submission, so it sounds like he sees something that is upsetting him. If he can't see your other dragon, is there another pet that he can see? Maybe he sees his reflection in the glass. If that's the case then covering it should help.

Not sure if I said this in another post, but sometimes babies do real good the first few days and then all of the sudden they start acting funny. Almost like the first few days were vacation and then it sinks in that this is their new forever home. They can get skittish and not want to eat so much. Just limit the amount of time you hold him and let him get used to his new house.

Thanks for the info. What do you recommend covering the 3 sides with? A background like the desert ones or something solid color? He might be able to see my other beardie when he gets up in his basking spot but other than that I doubt he can really see him. I think I am the one freaking him out. Every time I come in my room it seems as if he is chill and just basking. After I sit in here for awhile then he starts the surfing and arm waving. Could be doing it too while I am gone but seems every time I walk in he is just basking. I will get another piece of the rock background for the 75 when I get some money saved back up. Spent enough the last couple of weeks now I gotta pay it off lol

I covered it with some sketch paper. He hasn't ate in two days that I have seen but I am seeing 1-2 poos in there everyday and I am providing him with either a misting or a bath to keep him hydrated. I just wish he would eat some crickets. He may be munching on some greens at times I am really now sure

Sorry I realized I never answered your question about covering the tank. Sketch paper is fine. I would take one of the papers off the front, so he can see some things but he's able to get out of view if he wants to. If he's pooping, then he is eating something. He will eventually eat some crickets, he won't let himself starve.
